Stewardship, Accountability and Management.

A strong alignment of words that define my contributions, should I be elected to the MTS Provincial Executive. Stewardship of the functions of MTS. Accountability for the actions of the Society, and Management of the resources we are entrusted with each year.

The governance of the society falls on the provincial executive. As we make our way through reorganizing our guiding documents, I want to ensure that addressing members needs remain our core principle. I want to ensure that member’s voices are at the center of our work, and that we seek the voices of those who are quiet or feel silenced. I want to ensure member’s money is properly used. If elected, I want to leave the Society stronger than when I arrived; with every voice elevated, our guiding principles more inclusive, and every member benefitting from our improved stewardship, accountability and management.

The provincial government is not treating education funding with the seriousness it deserves. Education funding continues to be the biggest problem facing the public education system. Underfunding leads to fewer resources in the school, cancelling of programs, and extreme, untested ideas being implemented to “do more with less.” Lack of funding causes larger classes, more violence in the classroom, less prep time, and more disparity. I will work with the Provincial Executive to clearly and consistently communicate with both the government and the public, ensuring that the impact of chronic underfunding is well understood and that meaningful solutions are brought forward.
